Saving time and energy with a Sunday prep hour (or two)

Meal Prepping. You hear it all the time and might think of a few different things. Personally, I think of the five glass bowls with the same meal that you put in the fridge for the week. You eat the same thing every day and heat it up in the microwave or the oven. As someone who really doesn’t care for most leftovers, this seems like my worst nightmare. However, prepping my meals all in one go so that I don’t have to spend an hour chopping vegetables during the week? Well, that might be a dream come true.

When I say meal prepping, I mean chopping, marinating, and slicing all of the food that I need for the week. For this week’s meals, for example, I spent just under two hours prepping all the veggies. While I spent so long on Sunday prepping the veggies I needed for the week, when I made dinner that night I hardly spent any time prepping and most of the time just cooking!

Prepped veggies for the week

I don’t have any meal prep containers for the time being since I’ve just started doing this. I used plastic bags that I had in my cupboard and labeled them to just throw them in the pot when I was ready. If this is truly my new hyper fixation, some glass storage containers specifically for this may be in my future.

Cooking feels like a chore throughout the week and even those “30-minute Meals” that you find on Pinterest always seem to take me over an hour to make. Maybe that means I have to learn to prep quicker. Or maybe multitask better. Maybe those recipes don’t count prepping in their time. Down the road, this will help me stay on top of things once marriage and children are in full swing.
