This October, Carter and I decided to try a new thing for us- a no-spend month. With paying for a new garage in the spring, a trip to Vegas in February, and a wedding in September of next year, we really need to start saving money instead of spending it. To be fair, I do more spending than he does, but it’s a good way to get us to pinch those pennies and put them towards things that will benefit us both!
Our rules are simple: no spending on anything that is not a necessity. We will (obviously) still be paying our bills and subscriptions and food, but other than that nothing. We agreed that we each have one category we will be able to spend money on (I need to get things for my Halloween party still!) and that if we’re invited out to eat we will be able to spend then. But from now until October 31st, we will not be spending money on anything (no matter how much we want it)!
I’ve been trying to lessen what I buy and have started to buy more second-hand items, if possible. Facebook marketplace has been my new doom-scrolling vice, I love to scroll and look at the sometimes ridiculous items people post on there. I’m hoping that doing a no-spend month will help me pay off some of the debts I have and make it easier to save for the upcoming big-ticket spends in the next year.
